What Causes Acne?

Acne develops when an abundance of dead skin cells and a naturally-produced oil called sebum plug tiny hair follicles, or pores. As sebum production continues to build under the plug in the skin’s surface, it becomes infected with P. acne bacteria, causing uncomfortable symptoms like swelling, redness, and inflammation.

Acne presents itself in many ways - whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and cysts are all common forms of acne, and each type can require a different approach for treatment. Although acne is often considered a “teenage issue,” it can occur on any person at any age for a wide array of reasons. That’s where we come in!

LED Treatments for Acne

LED therapy, stands for Light Emitting Diodes. Light therapy is the application of specific wavelengths of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits.

The energy delivered is then used to improve cellular performance.

It has been widely researched and is supported by thousands of peer-reviewed and published clinical research papers from prestigious institutions around the world.

The treatment involves you laying under the LED lamp for a pre-determined number of minutes usually 20- 30 minutes. The treatment is found to be relatively relaxing. (We often catch people snoring during their treatment ;-)

LED Therapy is recommended to be performed for acne twice a week initially, and then tapering off as your skin improves. For optimal results, we usually recommend a series of 8 sessions. It is the perfect solution for all clients as the treatments are able to be performed on all skin types and from teenagers to adults. LED treatments can be undertaken as a stand-alone treatment or combined with other skin therapies which we also offer here at New Age Skin Care.

SSR/IPL Acne Treatments

After a full skin assessment, our team may recommend a series of SSR/IPL treatments to help reduce your acne. These light based treatments are able to treat acne by:

  • Killing Bacteria: SSR/ IPL therapy uses light energy to target the bacteria that cause acne. The light energy penetrates the skin and destroys the bacteria, reducing the number of acne breakouts.

  • Reducing Inflammation: SSR/IPL therapy can help to reduce inflammation in the skin. Inflammation is one of the primary causes of acne, and reducing it can help to prevent future breakouts.

Results may vary from client to client however most people will see a significant improvement in skin condition. Treatments should be scheduled approximately 1-2 weeks apart.
