What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a common skin condition of the face that causes flushing and visable blood vessels. Doctors don’t actually know the main cause of rosacea, but it is thought it might be hereditary and due to environmental factors, an overactive immune system or a combination of all of these. Rosacea is not contagious or from by poor hygiene but it may be hereditary. Flare-ups might be triggered by spicy foods or hot drinks. Symptoms are sensitive, rough or dry skin, raised red patches, skin thickening and facial swelling. It may also produce small, infected bumps. Rosacea symptoms may flare up for weeks and then go away for a while which is why it can sometimes be mistaken for acne.

What are LED Treatments?

It is a light-based therapy that utilises high intensity light emitting diodes (LED's) ranging from red, yellow and blue to gently and painlessly stimulate the skin. These treatments help reduce rosacea, acne and hyperpigmentation and to detoxify and increase your skin firmness. Numerous studies including this one by Dr. Michael Hamblin of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital have found light therapies like this to be rejuvenating, stimulating and healing for the skin.

The treatment involves you laying under the lamp for a pre-determined number of minutes usually 15, 20 or 30 minutes. The rosacea treatment itself is found to be relatively relaxing.
