5 Tips to Keep Your Skin Glowing this Winter

As winter well and truly takes its hold on us in Wagga Wagga it is important to take care of your skin and keep it looking it’s best. Here are some top tips to ensure that you keep that glow on through the coldest months of the year.

  1. Keep your showers short and not too hot. Water dry’s your skin out, therefore limit the time spent in the shower. Excessively hot water also dehydrates the skin. “If the water you use on your skin is too hot, it will dilate capillaries in order to cool itself, resulting in redness,” says Dr. Macrene-Alexiades a US based dermatologist.

  2. Moisturise Stat. As soon as you have cleansed your skin you need to apply moisturiser as soon as possible. Your pores open up when you have washed your skin therefore you need to feed that skin whilst the pores are open and that will help to replenish moisture into the lower layers.

  3. Protect.  Gloves and scarves to protect skin from cold winds, fog and rain. Also, don’t forget the sunscreen. Winter sun can be just as damaging as summer sun, so apply a safe option like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to any exposed areas.

  4. Exfoliate regularly. Same as any season, you need to remove dead skin cells so fresh, healthier skin can develop. With so much going onto and into our skin throughout winter it is imperative to cleanse and exfoliate regularly.

  5. Maintain your water consumption. Contrary to popular belief our skin is more dehydrated in winter than any other season. This is due to many factors, including cold weather, our penchant for calming hot beverages and office heating. To keep skin healthy this winter, maintain your water consumption.
